Uber Eats Courier Status in Toast: Keep Driver Progress Separate From Kitchen Readiness

Toast POS 2.114 shows Uber Eats courier status in Payment Terminal. Where to find it, which orders it covers, and the kitchen and bag check that still comes before any handoff.

Quick answer: Toast's product update dated October 29, 2026 says that if your location uses the Uber Eats integration, Toast POS 2.114 and later shows Uber Eats courier status in Payment Terminal. Open Payment Terminal from the POS main menu, then open an active Uber Eats delivery order. Toast gives Driver Assigned and En Route as examples. The status tells you about the courier, not whether the food is ready, so keep checking the ticket and the bag before anything leaves the counter.

We wrote this from Toast's update and support articles as they read on November 3, 2026. We haven't used this view on a Toast device, so what's on your screen may differ.

Who has it

The update says you need all four of these:

  • Your location uses Toast's Uber Eats integration.
  • You're in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland or Australia.
  • The device runs Toast POS 2.114 or later. Check the version on the device itself.
  • The order is an active Uber Eats delivery order.

The update is tagged Generally Available, but it doesn't say whether every location got it on the same day. If a device that meets all four shows no status, have a manager ask Toast. Don't switch Uber Eats off and on to make the status appear.

Which orders it covers

Toast's Uber Eats integration guide, last updated October 20, 2026, says the integration creates two dining options. Uber Eats Delivery is for orders that go out to the guest. Uber Eats Takeout is for orders the guest picks up. The status update is written for delivery orders.

Toast Delivery Services (TDS) is a different thing. Toast's TDS overview describes it as delivery for your own Toast Online Ordering channels, using drivers from Uber Direct or DoorDash Drive, and says it's separate from the Uber Eats marketplace. An Uber Direct driver picking up a TDS order is still handling a TDS order. Our TDS proof of delivery photo guide covers that side.

If you also run TDS or your own drivers, Toast's guide says Uber Eats delivery orders can show up in Delivery Mode. That doesn't make them yours to deliver. The same guide says self-delivery isn't available for Uber Eats orders.

Where to see it

  • On the Toast POS app, open the main menu and select Payment Terminal.
  • Find the order. Toast says the order list shows the courier status.
  • Open it. Toast says the check details show it too.

Reading the status only takes opening the order. Payment Terminal also has the controls for turning ordering channels on and off and for snoozing orders, and Toast's guide says changes there carry over to Toast Web. Leave those alone.

Toast names Driver Assigned and En Route, and describes progress "such as when a driver is assigned, is en route, or has delivered the order." "Such as" means that's not the full list. Toast doesn't define the words, and the example screen in the update doesn't define them either. It doesn't say whether En Route means heading to you or to the guest, how quickly the status updates, or why an order might show none. It doesn't describe arrival times, so don't quote one to a guest from this screen.

The courier isn't the kitchen

Toast's guide says driver dispatch timing is managed entirely by Uber Eats. A courier can be assigned, or on the way, while the food is still on the line.

Readiness in Toast is your Order Ready setting. The guide says Uber Eats orders follow the Order Ready behavior set for your KDS. With the toggle on, they're marked Order Ready automatically once the kitchen fulfills them. With it off, someone marks them Order Ready by hand in the Orders Hub Active tab. Managers should know which way theirs is set. It's in Toast Web under Takeout & delivery > Orders Hub > Kitchen Display System (KDS). Look, but don't change it.

Our house check before a bag goes out, which isn't a Toast or Uber Eats rule:

  1. The ticket is done, and Order Ready is marked if yours is set to manual.
  2. The bag has been checked against the ticket.
  3. The courier's order matches the Uber Eats order ID on the check.

If any one is missing, the bag stays. A status that looks behind, like Driver Assigned when the courier is already at the counter, doesn't matter if all three check out.

When the screen and the shelf don't match

Hold the bag and get a manager if the screen says delivered, canceled, returned or anything else that sounds finished while the bag is still on your shelf, or if you can't match the courier to the order.

Once a bag is on hold, a matching order ID isn't enough to release it. It goes out when the manager has resolved the order and says so. Toast's guide sends live order cancellations, guest refunds and missing delivery drivers to Uber Eats support, and Toast configuration to Toast Customer Care. Whether held food is still fit to send is your own food safety call. If the order may need canceling, that's the manager's call too, and our guide to canceling an Uber Eats order in Toast covers it.

No status at all? Keep working the order the way you did before this update, and tell a manager. A missing status isn't on either support list. Since it's a Toast POS feature, we'd start with Toast.

Toast's guide doesn't say what evidence either support team wants. The check shows the guest's first name and last initial, so we pass on only the order ID, the time, the exact screen wording and, for a missing status, the device and POS version. If a photo of the screen is needed, keep guest details out of it and delete it when the issue's closed.

A short example

This one's made up. Uber Eats delivery order A71 is bagged and checked, and the screen says Delivered with no courier in sight. The counter holds the bag and gets the manager, who contacts Uber Eats support with the order ID, the time and the exact screen wording. A courier then asks for A71, and the ID matches. The bag still waits until the manager has settled what happens to A71, using support's answer or, without one, the restaurant's own procedure.
